Some Questions and Answers about Juvederm®/Restylane®/Perlane®

What is Juvederm®/Restylane®/Perlane®?

It is a modified form of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in human skin and throughout the body.

What areas is Juvederm®/Restylane®/Perlane® used for?

• Shaping facial contours (such as cheeks and chin correcting)

Which product should I use?

Commissures before...

Each product is designed for different purposes.  Restylane®/Juvederm 24® is used for wrinkle correction and lip enhancement.  Perlane®/Juvederm 30® is used for correcting deep folds and facial contouring as well as for volume lip augmentation.  Dr Setterfield will choose the product that matches the tissue structure at various levels of skin depths.

How is a Juvederm®/Restylane®/Perlane® treatment performed?

After Dr Setterfield determines the best injection sites for you, the area will be numbed with a topical anesthetic.  The gel is then injected just beneath the skin

and after Juvederm®

surface with an extremely fine needle.  Improvement is seen immediately.

How long does Juvederm®/Restylane®/Perlane®  last?

The effects of Juvederm® or Restylane®/Perlane® usually last six to nine months, but sometimes more or sometimes less depending on skin type, the area treated, the volume injected, the thickness of the gel and the technique used for the procedure.  The outcome can be optimized and made to last longer with a follow-up procedure a few weeks after the initial treatment. This will be decided during your complimentary consultation with Dr Setterfield.

Are there any reactions to treatment?

There may be some local treatment responses and these are perfectly normal.  They can include temporary discomfort, discoloration or mild to moderate redness and swelling.  Typically these responses are temporary and, if they do occur, will usually go away within a couple of days.
